Drone and UAV education
Technology grounded in whakapapa
Te Rere Ao, The Digital Flight Trust is a Māori-led charitable trust based in Rotorua. Its drone education kaupapa connects practical technology learning with tikanga Māori, te reo Māori and whakapapa.
The trust’s published programme areas include UAV and drone education, creative technology and digital access. The aim is to help rangatahi, whānau, kura, marae and communities build confidence and capability with emerging tools.
From awareness to creative exploration
Drone education pathways include Part 101 and Part 102 awareness, flight planning, safety, aerial cinematography, FPV systems and drone innovation. These are programme areas to discuss with the trust; this page does not advertise a particular scheduled course or qualification.
The wider pathway model is Learn, Fly, Create, Lead. Access to equipment and mentors supports practical learning, which can lead to creative projects, storytelling and exploration of future technology pathways.
Start with your community’s priorities
Kura, marae, hapū, iwi and community partners can contact the trust to discuss their goals. Describe who the learning is for, the location, the interests of the group and the equipment or support already available.
Te Rere Ao also welcomes conversations about equipment support, programme funding and technology collaboration. The next step is a conversation about the kaupapa and what a suitable partnership could involve.
